To Go or Not to Go Traveling

If there is one universal truth it would be that accomplishing anything in the physical world is always more difficult than just thinking about doing it or mentally doing it. The human mind simplifies actions, you imagine driving to the local grocery store in your mind's eye before you leave home, but when you step out of your door you have to interact with your automobile and real people. You have to deal with the weather, other drivers on the road, that's always fun and interruptions during your trip like your phone ringing or beeping. You have to park, walk into the store, select items from the shelves, check out and usually interact with the cashier. Then you have to get home.
You can imagine trips, like a world cruise, that seem like they would be magical, but in point of fact are difficult for some from the moment they leave their front door. Yes it is magical to see distant cities like Stockholm and St. Petersburg, but traversing thousands of miles via planes, trains, ships and automobiles can test even the most well prepared traveler.
There are many more people than you might imagine who simply don't travel. Traveling is expensive unless you try to do it painfully with little money. It also disrupts your life in several ways. Some say "why bother going somewhere when you can see it in high definition or 4k on TV?" The fact of the matter is that you can travel the streets of Valparaiso, Chile a few minutes from now, it appears to be a beautiful city by the way, using a Google app and a Pad. If you are inclined to not travel you can leave home via the Internet with no risk of inconvenience or risk.
We all know that Internet surfing is not like being there, my trips to places like Venice and Rome could never be replicated by on the Pad, but the cost of viewing far off places if you already have a Pad is nearly zero. There is no airport, no long plane ride, no expensive transfers on taxis with big tips and no disappointments with your hotel or room.
Valparaiso appears to be an amazing place, and you can see it even if you don't have the travel money or the time to stay there. You can't smell the sea or taste the cooking but you can maneuver down its beautiful coastline or drive up into the surrounding residential areas and look down on the sea.
The true traveler scoffs at virtual travel. If they can afford to travel wherever they like it seems ridiculous that anyone would spend time ruining a potential trip by using a Pad to "visit" the place first. But I have seen absolutely beautiful places like Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina and the mountains and rivers of Southwest New Zealand, places that I likely won't be able to personally visit at my age, but I am happier having seen them.
Yes I can actually see those places if I have an extra ten thousand dollars per person, but how many people have that kind of extra money now? If you just can't see your way clear to taking that next expensive trip maybe you should consider taking a look at a few possible places that you would like to go and make your decision based on a "sneak peek."

Thousands of Common Cranes Lured by Scanian Wetlands

Bird-watching - sustainable tourism in Scania
Southern Sweden has seven major bird-watching sites out of which two are situated in Scania: Falsterbo and Kristianstad's Vattenriket wetlands. Falsterbo is situated on a picturesque peninsula in the southwestern corner of Scania. This peninsula, a popular tourist resort and the last strip of land before crossing the sea to northern Germany, offer a safe passage for migrating birds each spring and autumn. Out of 500 million migrating birds most choose this passage that makes Falsterbo one of Europe's foremost bird migrating sites. Especially migration of predators gathers a lot of interest.
Kristianstad's Vattenriket wetlands is another rich bird sanctuary with a particular interest towards the common crane that arrive in thousands to rest in the shallow waters and feed on the fields. The area is also rich in predators like the sea eagle, osprey and kite. The varied landscape include woodlands, wetlands, dunes, shorelines and moors that form a nesting area for swans, geese, waders, ducks, Eurasian bittern, Ruff, Savi's warbler, Pied avocet, European serin, Caspian tern, Black-tailed Godwits, the Southern Dunlin, Garganey, Montagu's harrier and many more typical for this region.
The spring arrives with the common crane
The Western European population of common crane has expanded over recent years and the number of migrating birds over Scania has therefore also increased. The spring passage in the end of March and early April bring large flocks from Southern Europe to rest and feed at the fields of Pulken. The daily count can be up to 7000 birds that normally stay for 3 days or longer, depending on the weather conditions, before they continue their flight further north.
The cranes look for both safe waters and a chance to feed on newly sowed barley and wheat fields. Without taking protective measures the growing number of visiting cranes causes damages to the farmers. Therefore the farmers have, in collaboration with the authorities, started feeding the birds on designated fields whereby some 500 - 700 kg's of harvested barley seed is spread out mechanically every day.
The feeding of the birds brings them together and offers a magnificent show of dancing birds that attract both domestic and international visitors. Professional photographers show up early in the morning followed by the larger audience later in the day. Pulken provide for good parking space and a bird watching tower with an excellent view of the birds. The area is easily approached and suitable for disabled persons, too. Representatives from the Vattenriket's biosphere organization and the local bird association provide for telescopes and information to the visitors. Kristianstad's Vattenriket Biosphere Reserve
This biosphere reserve was formed 10 years ago as a result of collaboration with UNESCO; see my previous article on the subject "Kristianstad Converts a Risk into a Major Opportunity". The Naturum Visitor Centre today serve more than 150.000 visitors every year taking part in its unforgettable guided activities including eagle and crane watching, water safaris, exhibitions, hiking, bird watching or e.g. fishing offer seasonal activities all year around. The reserve offers 22 well-managed sites to visit, all with their distinct characteristics and something for the whole family to enjoy.
Kristianstad's Vattenriket is a paradise for birdwatchers due to the varied nature of the landscape. Some 225 species of birds can be found nesting within or close to the wetlands, several of them red-listed as nationally endangered species. The stork that disappeared from Scania in 1954 has also been reinstalled during recent years. The wetlands are protected by the international Ramsar convention, by EU Natura 2000 and national legislation.

The Impressive Skytree Tower, Tokyo

The Skytree tower in Tokyo is not only the tallest communication tower in the world, but it is has also become a symbol for the Japanese capital. Standing at more than 2,000 feet, Skytree is a popular tourist attraction in a city that is already full of impressive sites.
This prominent structure was originally built as a television broadcasting tower and was opened in May 2012. Despite its modernity and hi-tech features, Skytree was designed to depict the traditional traditional Japanese architecture, particularly the concave sori curves and convex mukuri curves as seen in most of the country's ancient temples and buildings.
Some of the highlights of visiting the Skytree tower are its two observation decks. The first observation level is named Tembo Deck, and is located about 350 meters above the ground. But its height is not its only jaw-dropping feature. This observation deck has 5-meter high panels that unveil a 360 degree view of the Tokyo and the whole Kanto region.
Just an elevator ride away and 100 meters above the Tembo Deck, lies the Tembo Galleria. Considered the highest skywalk in the world, this special deck is composed of a sloping spiral ramp that circles the tower. This ramp leads visitors to a 110-meter long glass paneled flooring. If you dare look down while walking the transparent flooring, you will be seeing Tokyo and its skyscrapers at your feet. Now this can be very challenging for those who have fear of heights. But if you overcome such fear, you will be rewarded by a wonderful experience - a bird's eye view of the urban jungle of the prominent Japanese city.
If you have not had your fill of being up high above the city, then make your way to SoraKara Point, which marks the highest accessible point of the tower. With a height of about 451 meters, being here feel like the floating with the clouds in the sky. Aside from its observation decks, Skytree is a commercial hub filled with sections that do not fail to impress and entertain guests during their visit. The middle floor of the tower is occupied by a souvenir shop and the Musashi Sky Restaurant. This sky restaurant offer diners by a superb French-Japanese fusion cuisine menu. There is also café on the ground area.
Skytree Tower is the center piece for the developed area called Tokyo Skytree Town. Within this area is the commercial complex called Tokyo Solamachi. This complex is home to a wide range of shops and restaurants, and even has its own aquarium and planetarium. After overcoming your fear of heights and enjoying the city panoramas, come down to Solamachi for some needed entertainment and fun!
This iconic tower is situated in the Oshiage, Sumida-ku neighborhood of Tokyo and is easily accessible by the metropolis' extensive train network. The observation platforms are opened to visitors from 08:00 - 22:00 on a daily basis. There are various admission fees available for purchase, including same-day tickets for the Tembo Deck and Galleria. Tickets to the first observation deck can usually be bought on the 4th floor. Once you reach the Tembo Deck, you can purchase the tickets to the second observation deck.

That, being said, those I found were very minor occasions, mostly there will be people with whom you totally connect with. It's like you instantly get along. I went around meeting as many people as I could, and I could quickly tell who I would get along with and who I may not spend much time with.
By the time we reached Paris (our first major stop), I could see "strangers" that were now all friends.
When you're in a small group of 22, as this one, you're going to meet like minded people easily. It's guaranteed.
Even the shyest person on our tour-a widowed lady of around sixty, found people easily to connect and socialise with.
